Why spring is the optimal time to support detox
Mar 03, 2026
Detoxification isn’t something we switch on. It’s something the body does constantly. But certain times of year make it easier.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this season corresponds to the Liver, the organ responsible for detoxification, hormone regulation and emotional flow. The Liver prefers movement, lightness and expansion.
After months of slower, heavier eating and more indoor living, the body naturally wants to:
- move more
- lighten meals
- increase circulation
- clear stagnation
Winter is a time of nourishment. Hearty meals. Slow cooking. Mineral-dense broths. Animal proteins that build reserves.
But as the light increases, digestion often craves fresher foods. Bitter greens. Herbs. Sprouted foods. Lighter meals that support bile flow.
This isn’t about abandoning nourishment. It’s about adjusting with the rhythm of the body.
Signs your Liver system may need support:
- irritability
- bloating
- PMS
- waking between 1–3am
- sluggish digestion
- headaches behind the eyes
- skin breakouts
- fatigue and lethargy
Supporting detox at this time can look like:
- increasing cruciferous vegetables
- adding bitter greens (rocket, dandelion, watercress)
- dry brushing for lymph flow
- gentle movement
- reducing alcohol and refined sugar
- early nights to support bile production
Detox doesn’t need to be dramatic.
It simply needs to be aligned.
When you work with the season, detox feels natural, not forced.
But if you are ready to take things further, we’d love to support you inside The Detox Academy. This is what we help clients do, day in and day out.
