Moving from winter nourishment to lighter living

Winter is for building.

This time of year is for moving.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Liver thrives on movement and fresh green foods. Bitter and slightly pungent flavours help bile flow and support detox enzymes.

This is when salads, fresh herbs, sprouts and lighter meals begin to feel more appropriate.

Layering in foods like:

  • fresh herbs like parsley and coriander
  • lightly steamed greens
  • lemon water
  • sprouts
  • avocado
  • olive oil
  • root vegetables roasted instead of stewed

Heavier slow cooker meals can gently reduce, making space for more raw or lightly cooked plant foods.

Food should match your energy.

Recipe: Sweet Potato Nachos

This recipe beautifully bridges seasons:

  • sweet potato (grounding + nourishing)
  • avocado (healthy fats)
  • fresh herbs (Liver support)
  • olives (mineral rich)

Serves 2 | 10 min preparation time, 35 min baking time 

  • 4-5 large orange sweet potatoes 
  • 1 red onion 
  • 1/2 cup black olives, pitted 
  • 1-2 avocados 
  • 1 fresh bunch of cilantro 
  • crack of sea salt and black pepper 

Method:

Peel the sweet potatoes. Make 1cm wide slices length wise with a sharp knife. They should look like bread slices. 

Place them on an oven tray on top of parchment paper and bake for 35 min at 180°C (350°F). 

Flip at mid time. 

Meanwhile, chop the red onion, the olives and the cilantro finely. 

Slice the avocado in half and remove the pit. Cut the flesh in small cubes. 

Once the sweet potato slices are baked (look for the little orange drop on top on them to know when they are ready), place them on a large flat platter. 

Sprinkle the onion, olives, avocado cubes, cilantro on top. 

Add salt and pepper to taste.
